RYE BOURBON 12 years

It’s a decent barrel, rated it 5 ⭐️
I was shopping specifically for well aged wet bourbon barrel, with the bonus of high rye content. Midwest delivered. Because the barrel is older than any barrel I have acquired before, I was expecting something well worn, scratched and dented; which I got, however the bung stave was damaged pretty badly with some bulging and deep cracking. After filling the barrel, and setting a new bung, there have been zero problems, and I don’t predict any major issues. I was a little surprised this barrel met a quality standard, simply because once seeing the damage which is likely benign, it doesn’t give you a confidence level that your aging spirit may not end up a total loss, risking a lot of time, effort and money. The worry takes a bit of the fun out of the project. Otherwise always happy with Midwestern.

Sean,

We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience! We always want our barrels to meet expectations, so our customer service team will be reaching out to learn more about the bung stave and make sure you’re fully set up for success. Thanks again for your support—we’re always looking to improve, and feedback like yours helps us do just that!
